Wade King leadership update

A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker

Dear Wade King families,

I want to share a leadership update with you. During a staff meeting today, we announced that the new principal at Wade King will be Joseph Doucette.

Mr. Doucette is currently serving as assistant principal at Bellingham High School, a position he has held since 2018. Prior to working at BHS, Mr. Doucette was a principal and assistant principal at Arlington Public Schools and led its K-12 Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) programs. Mr. Doucette also has vast experience working in Waldorf schools, including as a teacher, school administrator and northwest regional leader for the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. Mr. Doucette has taught grades 1-12, including two different cohorts of students from first through eighth grades at Whatcom Hills Waldorf School, where teachers “loop” with a group of students from year to year.

Mr. Doucette is a thoughtful, experienced leader and lifelong learner who will earn his doctorate in education from Northeastern University this June. He has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Syracuse University in New York and a master’s degree in educational administration from Western Washington University. Mr. Doucette is looking forward to working at an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, returning to an elementary school and developing relationships with students, families and staff. He will transition into this new role over the summer.

I would like to thank the Wade King and district staff who participated in the interview teams for the principal and assistant principal positions, as well as all families and staff who took the time to share their hopes for the school’s new principal.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Doucette to Wade King and wishing Ms. Johnson all the best in her next adventure at Parkview.

Greg Baker
